For the past several years, beautiful hanging flower baskets and planters have adorned Wall Street throughout the summer, bringing vibrant life to downtown Eagle River. Initially launched by the Design Committee of the Eagle River Revitalization Program (ERRP), this project has grown into a collaborative community effort. Nancy Schuller, the Committee Chair, highlights the invaluable support from the Vilas County Master Gardening Club, which helps coordinate the fourteen stunning hanging baskets and the thirty lush planters decorating the corners of Wall and Railroad Streets.

To maintain this beautiful display, the ERRP has invested in a specialized "watering cart" for daily hydration of the planters and baskets. The City of Eagle River generously donates water to fill the tank twice each morning, ensuring consistent care throughout the season.

In addition to the floral displays, the ERRP also manages the purchase and replacement of approximately 100 flags on street poles along HWY 45 and Wall Street. These flags are displayed from before Memorial Day until after Veterans Day, adding a patriotic touch to our community.

A creative placemaking effort to beautify and add art to the city landscape.

The National Endowment for the Arts says “Creative placemaking animates public and private spaces, rejuvenates structures and streetscapes, improves local business viability and public safety, and brings diverse people together to celebrate, inspire, and be inspired. “

Challenge

Many pieces need to fit into the creation process for a mural. We need to find a building owner who wants a mural on their building, then we need to find an artist, approve a design, raise the funds to cover all the expenses, find volunteers to assist in prepping and promoting the project and get city approvals. If you can help in any way with any of the processes we would greatly appreciate your contribution to adding some beautiful art to our city.

The lot on the northwest corner of First and Wall Street, which was previously an automotive service center, was purchased by the City of Eagle River in 2020.  The City demolished the building and cleaned up the property for resale and listed the property for $250,000.  The Eagle River Revitalization Program requested permission from the City to beautify the property for use by the community and as an outdoor dining area. 

The Promotions Committee along with Eagle River Light & Water and the Public Works department decorated the vacant lot for the holidays with lighted trees and a Santa mail box.  In the spring of 2021, they added some painted tables with umbrellas, flowers, and benches. 

Over the summer and into the fall there were several events that utilized the space, such as; the Memorial Day Art & Craft Event, Burger Bash, Party in the Street, Car & Truck Show, Hallowfest. 

Our Playground Revitalization Project aims to replace outdated, unsafe playground equipment with new, inclusive installations that provide a safe, engaging environment for individuals of all ages and abilities. The new playground features an ADA-compliant fall zone and several all-inclusive play areas, ensuring fun and challenges for everyone—whether they can climb, run, or jump, or need different forms of engagement.

Partnering for Inclusivity

In 2022, we partnered with the Lion’s Club to enhance our project by adding a poured rubber surface to the new playground equipment at Lion’s Gremban Park behind City Hall. This addition will create two inclusive, accessible playgrounds in Eagle River, significantly enhancing the community's recreational resources.

The Eagle River Revitalization program has launched a free, wireless internet service for downtown Eagle River, available to anyone with a cell phone, tablet, or laptop. 

The wireless network was installed by ChoiceTel of Eagle River and provides free internet connectivity for the public along Railroad St. from the bridge south to Wall St. and then east along Wall St. to approximately Third St.
